4 Ways We Use Social Media To Build Our Brand

Posted in Social Media on 31.07.14 by John Meloche

Social Talk BubbleHere, at Synergy Marketing, we’ll be the first to admit that we’re not exactly social media experts. After all, we spend the majority of our days speaking to business owners from all over Canada on the good old telephone. Having said that, we’re still very much aware about the power of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. This is why we remain active on both of our accounts on a daily basis.

As we’ve mentioned in previous blogs, we place links to each and every one of our blog posts on both our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Since we adopted this practice, we’ve noticed that our website has been getting a lot more attention. This is the main point of communicating through social media. It helps to deliver traffic to places you want it to go. Naturally, the more people that visit our website, the more opportunities we have to encourage them to call us.

At Synergy Marketing, we specialize in providing the best promotional products in our industry. We know that promo gifts work wonders in helping business owners to make good impressions on their customers. Promo gifts have long been known to secure customer loyalty, encourage referrals and increase overall sales. But our social media posts have been known to intrigue a wider range of potential buyers.

There’s a trick to using social media properly. It’s not so much of a trick as it is an appropriate way to utilize the sites. It’s important to keep in mind that social media is all about being social. It’s important to engage your audience so that they don’t feel like they’re being blatantly advertised to. Instead, we work to engage them in conversation. Here are four ways that Synergy Marketing communicates its messages through social media.

1. We ask questions. Every time we post one of our blogs, we ask a question to intrigue our reading audience. The answer to the question can always be found in the blog post. So, it is our goal to spark the interest of online users so that they want to know the answer to that question. Not only do we hope our friends and followers click on the link, but we encourage them to like and comment upon the post as well.

2. We utilize more than one site. Facebook and Twitter are arguably the most popular social networking sites out there. So those are the ones we are focused on at the moment. We believe that it’s important to update both – not just one – so that we can interact with the most amount of people possible. Since we started posting our blog links on each page, we have increased our number of friends and followers, but we are still looking to grow our reach.

3. We offer follow backs. Part of being social is interacting with those who have become your friends and followers. People like having followers on Twitter just as much as they enjoy following accounts that interest them. So we offer a very simple, yet effective approach to growing our followers on Twitter. If you follow us, we’ll follow you back. Here’s hoping we increase our Twitter followers by offering that promise in today’s blog!

4. We stay consistent. We blog daily. So unlike some other websites, we make sure that the Synergy Marketing website is constantly kept fresh. With so much content, we give online users ample reasons to visit our site daily. This, of course, allows both our Facebook and Twitter pages to remain fresh as well. Our hope is that with daily interactions, we’ll continue to grow our fan base.

By the way, just because we’re active on social media doesn’t mean we don’t want to speak with you directly. Feel free to give us a call at 1-877-748-9884.

5 More Ways Mobile Devices Can Grow Your Business

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 30.07.14 by John Meloche

Shopping woman texting on her phoneWe all want to promote our businesses. And we all want to save money doing it. Good thing you have the Synergy Marketing Blog to continually give you excellent cost-cutting ideas for how you can grow your business without going over budget, right? We’re pretty proud of the fact that we have been able to help Canadian business owners grow their businesses without breaking the bank for many years.

And, of course, it isn’t just our informative blogs that help to do the trick. Our amazing promotional products are both cost-efficient and very effective in helping business owners grow their reach. But, as we’ve been highlighting in our past two blogs, there are inventive mobile marketing techniques that can be employed to help take your business to a whole new level. And, it’s a very “smart” idea to use them.

On SucceedAsYourOwnBoss.com, Melinda Emerson writes that there are several ways to take advantage of the world’s fascination with smartphones. Nearly all of us have them. And those that don’t, generally have some type of mobile devices that can be used to gain further access to your brand. So what can you do, as a business owner, to encourage shoppers to pull out their phones and connect with you?

1. Use Mobile Directories. Suggests Emerson: “Get on the ‘mobile map’ by joining a few mobile directories. Make sure that all of your directory listings include a simple description of your services, hours of operation, phone number, address and a link to your website. Sample directories include Google+ Local and Yelp.com.” It’s no different than setting your business up with online directories. These, however, are specific to mobile devices.

2. Mobile Customer Service. Emerson writes that you can actually “use your smartphone to track payment processing and shipping details and to respond to any customer service or new business inquiries on the go.” Arguably, your mobile phone is the best way to keep in contact with all of your important clients, colleagues and suppliers considering that it is generally on your person at all times. No need to wait to get to a landline or desktop computer anymore!

3. Social Media Marketing. It’s rare to read a list of helpful business tips on the Synergy Marketing Blog and not find a tip that promotes the use of Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites. Emerson concurs, except she reminds us that we all need to keep our profiles up to date from our smartphones. Again, you don’t have to wait to get to a desktop computer to jump online.

4. Offer Text Bonuses. This particular tip is one that we’re adding to the list ourselves. In Monday’s blog, we commented upon the fact that one of our reps received a 20 per cent discount from a store that she visited over the weekend, simply by sending a text to a number that was posted on an in-store advertisement. Why not employ this exact same concept? Our rep is proof that it works. She can’t wait to get back to this store!

5. Offer Promotional Products. Okay, so how does this suggestion even make the list? It’s all about being creative. At Synergy Marketing, we offer the best promotional products in the business. But we know that the creative ways in which they are given out to customers is what really helps for business owners to grow their respective brands. The next time one of your customers sends you a text, reply with a message confirming that he or she has “won” a prize.

Call Synergy Marketing at 1-877-748-9884 to order those fantastic prizes today!

6 Magnificent Mobile Marketing Tactics

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 29.07.14 by John Meloche

Shopping woman sending a textIn yesterday’s blog, we began discussing the concept of text message marketing. Fresh off of a weekend shopping excursion, one of our own Synergy Marketing staff members commented about how impressed she was by the discount she received at one of her favourite stores. As she informed us, getting the discount was as simple as texting a number that was advertised on a sign inside the store.

As we detailed yesterday, this type of marketing strategy not only impresses customers but helps for merchants to grow their contact lists. With everyone using mobile devices and being so in tune with the internet, it’s important for your brand to utilize these technologies to its advantage. On SucceedAsYourOwnBoss.com, Melinda Emerson writes to this point by listing a number of mobile marketing tactics.

1. Text/SMS marketing. The first suggestion speaks to the one being utilized by our rep’s favourite store. Emerson writes that “once you have permission to contact your customers, you should create the right message to get them to click on your link or opt-in to a specific promotion using text messaging.” To reiterate, encouraging texts from your customers allows you provide them with access to your website as well as other links to information about special deals and events.

2. Incorporate QR Codes. Also known as “Quick Response Codes”, these modern-day barcodes can be read and downloaded for free by any smartphone, points out Emerson. They allow customers to get access to specific pages on your website or special discounts and offers. Essentially, you are making it very easy for your customers to gain “insider information” about everything going on with your brand.

3. Encourage check-ins. Mobile marketing gives your client base an entirely new way of keeping in touch. And, as mentioned, you couldn’t be making it any easier on them to do so. Suggests Emerson: “You can encourage customers to use Foursquare, Google+ location sharing or shopkick and give incentives for checking in, including special recognition, discounts, kickbacks, and gifts.”

4. Mobile search advertising programs. “It’s just like traditional PPC or pay per click advertising, it’s just on mobile devices,” writes Emerson, “Google lets you bid on what you are prepared to pay, either per click or per call from a potential customer. From text to locally-targeted ads and click to call ads, there are lots of options for mobile search campaigns. It works well for local retailers as it’s estimated that 30 to 35 percent of mobile searches have a local intent.”

5. Create a mobile app. Apps are all the rage, these days. And as Emerson informs us, many smartphone users prefer apps to mobile websites, downloading them by the tens of millions. By creating your own app, you can provide mobile users with unique content such as newsletters or access to special discounts. Not to mention, your apps will work to direct more traffic to your website, which often leads to greater traffic in your store.

6. Use your smart phone to grow your email list. Who needs business cards when you have a smartphone anyway? This is why so many business cards get thrown away so quickly. People simply store numbers in their smartphones, making business cards obsolete. “To grow your email list via a mobile device, you should focus on the contact moments we have with people using a smartphone,” insists Emerson, “Instead of collecting business cards from people at a conference there are new tools you may want to consider for building an email list.”

Building Your Brand Through Text Message Marketing

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 28.07.14 by John Meloche

Close up of a man using smartphonePeople love shopping on the weekends. That is certainly the case for many members of the Synergy Marketing staff. But when we shop, we do so with more of a keen eye on the ways in which merchants actively grow their businesses. This morning, one of our reps came in with a story about how one of her favourite stores is attempting to extend its reach by using a promotional campaign geared towards mobile phone users.

And by mobile phone users, we really mean, everyone! In this day and age, who isn’t using a cell phone, right? Most likely a smart phone these days, your handheld device is actually an excellent way to make use of discounts and other special bargains being offered by some of your favourite stores. But more importantly, as a store owner, you have the ability to grow your business by offering your customers special savings by using their phones.

And how exactly, are you able to do this? “When I was at the checkout, I noticed a big sign, saying that if I sent a text to their number, I would receive a discount code within seconds,” reported our staff member, “So I sent the text and I got a reply message with this code. I gave the code to the cashier and got a 20 per cent discount on my purchases! I thought ‘what an awesome idea’. Now, I get information from this store through text, but I don’t mind as long as it saves me money.”

Our rep points out a twofold benefit to beginning a new text message discount campaign. Firstly, it intrigues your customers by getting them interested in buying from your brand. Naturally, a discount is a great incentive to get your customers to not just by from you, but buy more than they normally would. Secondly, it grants you access to contact information that you can use to continually advertise to your loyal customers.

As you can imagine, the gathering of phone numbers will be a great help to your business. It is very often said that keeping your current customers loyal is a lot easier than attracting new customers to your store. We found that this somewhat new “text for a discount” idea was pretty impressive. After all, how hard is it to send a text? And, as previously asked, who doesn’t use a cell phone?

It’s practically a genius idea. Consider the fact that there are so many different benefits that you can offer your customers through this advertising concept. Our promotional products can work excellently with this technique. Offer your customers the ability to not just get a discount on their purchases, but a free promo gift whenever they send you a text and receive that discount code. As always, promo gifts are excellent ways to secure loyalty.

On SucceedAsYourOwnBoss.com, Melinda Emerson writes that “when it comes to marketing your small business, the next thing you really need to concern yourself with is mobile web marketing. You need to have a helpful website that is mobile ready, especially if you are a local retailer. Far more people use cell phones to access the Internet than ever before.” In tomorrow’s blog, we’ll discuss a few of her suggestions on how to use mobile marketing to promote your small business.

However, we’d like to make sure that you remain aware of how to get your hands on the best promo products in the business! Simply give Synergy Marketing a call at 1-877-748-9884. For decades, promotional products have helped Canadian business owners to grow their reach. And especially with a little help from your new text marketing campaign, we know that your new promo gifts will go a long way in helping to build your brand too.

5 Crucial Steps To Take To Secure Business Growth

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 25.07.14 by John Meloche

Five steps of a dietWe all want to grow our businesses. So, naturally, we all take steps towards gaining new customers and increasing our sales on a daily basis. But not all advertising strategies work for every business owner. It’s important to adopt business plans that will work for your specific industry and brand. Having worked with a multitude of different business owners across Canada for many years, the Synergy Marketing staff has learned this all too well.

This is why we offer so many different types of promotional products. Every business is different. So some gifts are simply going to work better for certain companies and not so much for others. Choosing the right business strategy is key. But as David Shed points out on BusinessInsider.com, “growth is a pre-requisite for business success, (so you) need to expand market share, seek out related and new market opportunities, and constantly pursue new customers just to stay even over the long haul.”

As mentioned, there are different ways to find success for all of us. Are there specific steps that we should all follow that are bound to help us out? Shed believes so. He insists that there are five crucial steps that entrepreneurs must take into order to secure business growth. And they should be able to help all business owners. In today’s blog, we will analyze these five steps while providing our own insight on each of them.

1. Satisfy Your Current Customers. Shed reminds us that it’s always easier to secure loyalty from your current customers than it is to attract new ones. So start with the people who already support you. Shed insists that you exceed the expectations of your current customers. It will reduce client turnover so that you don’t have to work towards replacing them. Satisfied customers will also make for the best advertisements for your brand.

2. Increase Your Market Share in Your Current Market Space. To further that last point, Shed notes that “satisfying your current customers strengthens your brand and proves that you live up to your brand promise. Building on this strong brand and referrals from your good customers, viral market out and penetrate new customers in your current market space.” As mentioned, the more happy current customers you have, the more that others are going to hear about it.

3. Work with Current Customers to Determine New Product and Service Opportunities. Notice a little theme going here? It’s all about working with your current customers. People who support your brand are the best people to ask about what you can do to continually make them happy. Take their feedback and follow their advice. Doing so “will bind you closer to these best customers and point the way to new product and service offerings that can then be offered to your entire customer base,” writes Shed.

4. Pursue Market Opportunities Already Under Your Nose. Make sure that you are someone who is easy to do business with, says Shed. This will open you up to potential customers who may be able to use your products and services to solve their problems. Consider what your new customers are buying from you and learn what it is you can do to continually make their lives easier. Watch the trends that take place in your store and you’ll discover new ways to increase sales.

5. Actively Pursue New Products and Market Opportunities. It’s important to be proactive, notes Shed. That means “seeking out growing and profitable markets, solving customer’s problems, and finding new market niches where your company can have a sustainable competitive advantage,” he writes, “This can include all the sexy stuff that they teach about in business schools: new product development, market entry strategies, joint ventures and acquisitions.”

And, by the way, don’t forget to hand out your snazzy promotional products to all of your customers to continue to secure their loyalty! Order yours today by calling Synergy Marketing at 1-877-748-9884.

4 More Ways To Make Social Media Work For You

Posted in Social Media on 24.07.14 by John Meloche

Social Media SignEach business day of the week, you will find a link to our daily blog posts on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. As we admitted yesterday, we’re still getting the hang of this social media thing. But we must admit, since we’ve been using our accounts more frequently, we have grown our reach and made greater impressions among the Canadian buying public. This is especially important for us because we have clients from all over the country.

As you can imagine, social media allows us to be social. It helps us to personally interact with people from all over the world. As you may have guessed, this is what makes social media so powerful. They help for people to be in touch and expose their personalities in ways that traditional advertising cannot. On Forbes.com, Kym McNicholas speaks to this point when she writes that people should share “story ideas and leads that have nothing to do with your business.”

Sometimes, not advertising is the best kind of advertising. On social media, people like to engage in discussion about a variety of topics. Doing so can lead to people checking your business pages out and taking an interest in your brand. In yesterday’s blog, we began looking at some tips listed by McNicholas to help business owners get a firmer grasp on how to use social media to their advantage. In today’s blog, we’ll conclude our look at that list.

1. Post Updates. Well, there’s certainly no point in signing up for social media accounts if you have no intention of keeping them updated. Consider your accounts extensions of your website. The same rules apply. When you don’t update your accounts, you will appear stagnant, giving no one any reason to keep checking you out. In fact, “it’s important to have content on your social media pages before you start adding friends and followers,” says McNicholas.

2. Find Friends and Followers. Of course, the point of using social media is to gain as much as exposure as you can. Getting friends and followers will require you to put some effort into attracting people to your pages. “Search keywords to find followers,” suggests McNicholas. And don’t forget to become a follower of other industry-types so that you can gain greater exposure online. People have to know you exist in order to follow back!

3. Engage Friends And Followers. As we mentioned in yesterday’s blog, you can’t simply join social media without being social. It’s important to ask questions and answer those that have been asked of you. Be sure to like other people’s posts and leave comments where appropriate. The more you interact with others through social media, the more links you create to your own pages. It certainly pays to be active on your accounts!

4. Stay Current. People love discussing current events. It’s something we keep in mind when we’re blogging. It’s the reason we make mention of such events as the recent FIFA World Cup tournament. So many people were talking about it, why wouldn’t we? As well, it’s important to “get alerts sent to your phone when folks engage with you via your social networking sites – at least in the beginning – that way you respond quickly,” reminds McNicholas.

Your social media pages are also great places to communicate your intent to satisfy your customers when they come into your physical stores. One way to do that is to offer up discounts and other benefits to those who come in and mention that they saw your promotion online. This gives you a great opportunity to hand your promotional gifts as well. For decades, they have proven to foster loyalty and promote referrals.

3 Tips On Using Social Media To Build Your Business

Posted in Social Media on 23.07.14 by John Meloche

Social media conceptIf you own a small business and haven’t yet gotten into the world of social media, you’re missing out. It’s not an opinion. It’s a fact. At least, this is what Kym McNicholas of Forbes.com believes. And we can’t say we disagree with her. “Silence is no longer an option. People are online talking about your company as you read this, whether you like or not,” she writes, “If you don’t engage in the conversation, you risk losing your customers.”

At Synergy Marketing, we post links to our blogs on our Facebook and Twitter accounts each and every day. In addition to those links, we also pose questions in an effort to engage our friends and followers in conversations. Naturally, our blog posts offer answers to those questions, but the ways in which we post the links speak to the power of social media. It’s all about being social. It’s all about opening up dialogue.

This has become the new way to advertise small businesses in our world. Firstly, it’s a lot cheaper to do so than to buy ad space or commercial slots on TV and radio. Secondly, it gives you the opportunity to directly communicate with the people that matter the most to your business – your customers. It’s important to find out what makes them tick. The more you engage with them, the better you’ll be able to meet their needs and satisfy their requests.

Jumping online is pretty easy. However, promoting yourself online takes a little bit of work that entails a certain type of know-how. Thankfully, McNicholas offers up a number of suggestions for business owners to follow if they want to use social media to their advantage. In today’s blog, we’ll review three of her suggestions in hopes that they will assist you in becoming a new marketing master in the social media world.

1. Assess Your Assets. No matter what type of marketing strategy you employ, you always have to determine what type of person you are marketing to. This is the always the first step. “The first action you should take before engaging in online marketing or social media marketing and engagement is to look at what are you’re trying to promote,” insists McNicholas, “What are your assets? Who are your target customers?”

2. Sign Up For Social Media. You’ll notice that one step needs to already be completed before you even launch your account. Once you’ve attained a grasp on who you’re marketing to, go ahead and create accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube and LinkedIn. As McNicholas informs, “Facebook allows you to create a business page. Make sure you read the rules for businesses first. You can even ‘create a page’ through your personal account, if your business allows you to do so.”

3. Find A Social Media Manager. Admittedly, managing all of your social media accounts can become quite time-consuming. As a business owner, you may not have time for it all. McNicholas suggests that you sign up for social media managers like Ping.fm and HootSuite that allow you to schedule messages all on one site. That way, you’re not worrying about sitting there for hours sending out message after message one at a time.

In tomorrow’s blog, we’ll continue our look at McNicolas’ tips on how to use social media to build your business. And since we must admit that we’re still getting the hang of it ourselves, we’d like to invite you to kindly follow us on Twitter and like our official Facebook page. If you follow us, we’ll follow you back! And, by all means, don’t hesitate in calling us to order your promotional products at 1-877-748-9884.

4 More Ways To Set Your Brand Apart

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 22.07.14 by John Meloche

goldfishMaking your business stand out from its competition doesn’t have to be an expensive task. This is a topic that we tackled in yesterday’s blog with the help of Jeff Howell from SteamFeed.com. He writes that creativity can often trump cash when it comes to marketing your small business. And with that, he offers a number of tips to help entrepreneurs set their brands apart. In today’s blog, we’ll conclude our look at that list with four more great tips.

1. Don’t just network — host an event. You have likely often heard that networking – both in person and through social media – is an essential part of business advertising in today’s world. But is there a better place to network than at an event that you’re hosting yourself? Howell writes that “hosting an event is a powerful way to get known by a lot of people at once. Why? Everybody comes over to thank the host.”

He goes on to suggest that you hold your event at your place of business to make obvious where your store is located. This will help to bring new people directly to you, giving you the best chance to showcase your products, services and top-of-the-line customer service regimen. Not to mention, hosting an event will allow you to showcase your personality – a trait that will go a long way in securing you new and loyal customers.

2. Referral rewards. There’s nothing like a strong incentive to get people to help you out. And as Howell points out, “this one’s still around because it works. Let customers know you’ll pay them $100 if they send you a customer, and turn your customers into your marketing team.” There are, of course, other ways to provide incentives to your customers. Naturally, useful promotional products are a top recommendation. Call Synergy Marketing at 1-877-748-9884 to order yours today!

As well, discounts, 2-for-1 deals and other freebies are all excellent bonuses that can be offered up to customers who recommend your store to their families and friends. It is often said that word-of-mouth promotion is the best kind to have. Who better to advertise your brand than its happy customers? Make it worth their while and they will continue to support you for many years to come.

3. Simplify. Howell insists that you make it easy on your customers by taking it easy on your customers. “Remember that too many marketing messages confuse customers, especially as you spread them across various social-media channels,” he writes, “Try to pare down to three choices in all aspects of your marketing, from how many fonts you use to how many times you follow up.”

4. Make it musical/visual. “Weird Al” Yankovic has just released his new album, Mandatory Fun. For those wondering how the king of song parodies has lasted over three decades in a generally-fickle music industry, it’s because he is excellent at adapting to the times. In recent interviews, Yankovic has acknowledged that he is utilizing the internet to promote his new album more than ever before. And millions across the world are paying attention!

He is currently on an “8 videos in 8 days” marketing campaign for the new project. So Howell poses the following: “Does your company have a theme song? A musical jingle you could share? Use tools such as Spotify to share a musical message with prospects. Create a YouTube commercial for your business and share it via social media.” You may not be a singer, but “Weird Al” is proving that such a strategy is bound to garner attention.

3 Creative Ways To Stand Out From Your Competition

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 21.07.14 by John Meloche

Standing out of the crowdAdvertising your business is a full time job. At Synergy Marketing, we have a lot of experience helping business owners across Canada to promote their brands, so we definitely know this to be true. It requires a lot of dedication, but it doesn’t necessarily require a lot of money. As we’ve often said in our blogs, creative marketing ideas can be both inexpensive and effective. And they’re usually what work best for small business owners.

On SteamFeed.com, Jeff Howell writes that there are several creative ways to help your small business to stand out. Again, when you’re creative with your approach to advertising, you don’t have to worry about going over your budget. Simply make it so that your customers are intrigued by the ways in which you communicate with them and you’ll notice that they’ll begin paying you a whole lot more attention. Here are three of Howell’s tips.

1. Ask your customers how they would like to receive content. “All you had to do was ask.” How many times have you had someone say that to you when you finally work up the courage to ask the nagging question that had been on your mind for weeks? It’s no different when it comes to promoting your business. Different people like receiving information in different ways. So communicate with your customers and ask what ways would work best work for them.

In some cases, that will be through an emailing list. Simply ask your customers if they would like to be on your mailing list so that they will be among the first to receive special offers and discounts. Howell also recommends that you run instant polls on your website to keep your customers engaged. More importantly, the polls will help you to determine exactly what makes your customers tick so you can better speak to their needs.

2. Triggered emails. Now speaking of that emailing list, it’s important that you provide your customers with benefits when they sign up. They should feel like they are part of an “exclusive” club when they get your messages. Firstly, your emails shouldn’t strictly be advertising-based. You don’t want to make them blatant commercials or they may turn people off. Engage your customers by being yourself and offering up something personal about yourself.

Think about your emails as if they were letters to friends. Of course, you’re not going to divulge every little personal detail about yourself. But it doesn’t hurt to be personable. Then, as Howell recommends, make additional offers, provide free information and remind your customers about opportunities that only they can take advantage of by being part of your emailing list. It could mean the difference between a sale and a deletion of your message!

3. Do what your competition isn’t doing. There’s probably no better way to outshine your competition than to offer your client base something that your competitors do not. “Analyze what marketing methods your competitors are using, and look for the holes,” insists Howell. An easy way to figure out exactly what those methods are would be to jump online. Check out your competition’s websites and see what they offer customers via the internet.

Can you offer your customers something through your website to make their lives easier? Can you make yourself more accessible to your customers when they have comments and questions that need to be addressed? Answering these and other questions that will make clear the differences between you and your industry contemporaries will truly help to set you apart. You’ll truly be rewarded in the end.

Be sure to check back for tomorrow’s blog as we continue to analyze Howell’s tips!

3 Of The Best Ways To Attract Customers With Promo Gifts

Posted in Promotional Products on 18.07.14 by John Meloche

P-554-160x160Okay, so we admit it. We have a bit of a bias going on. Even though we enjoy blogging about the various ways in which Canadian business owners can grow their businesses, at Synergy Marketing, we believe that promotional gifts sit at the top of the heap of great advertising ideas. But can you blame us? For quite some time, we’ve been proving that when business owners hand out our high-quality promo gifts to their customers, they grow their reach and increase their sales.

But you don’t have to just take our word for it. On MyTopBusinessIdeas.com, Ajaero Tony Martins writes that “there’s no marketing strategy more effective than a ‘free give away’ to get people’s attention. It doesn’t even have to be great stuff. If it’s free, people will definitely want it. That’s why logo products and promotional items are a great idea for any marketing or advertising campaign.”

And here’s one of the best possible things about using promotional gifts to grow your business. It isn’t expensive! Most business owners are concerned about overreaching their budgets when thinking of ways to advertise. And we completely understand that. After all, most traditional advertising campaigns are quite pricey. TV commercials, radio spots, billboards and print ads can all cost you a pretty penny.

But as Martins points out, “when it comes to using promotional products or items, you don’t have to spend a ton of money to make it worthwhile; as there are some simple and effective ways to use inexpensive products to send a powerful message about who you are as a company.” So how can one use promotional gifts so that they provide maximum effectiveness? Martins makes three suggestions that he believes are smart ways to attract customers.

1. Be Memorable. Think about standing out from the crowd, insists Martins. How can you grab the attention of your potential customers when you first meet them? By attending trade shows and similar events where networking is a must, you’ll want to leave everyone you meet having made an amazing first impression. Consider giving out gifts that no one expects. The more eye-catching, the better. One of Martins’ suggestions is a Frisbee!

2. Be Useful. What makes promotional gifts such amazing advertising tools is that they can be put to use. Flyers and business cards can’t make half the impact as a promotional gift because they are literally good for nothing. Martins points out that pens and calendars, for example, are both popular and effective because they are prone to being used frequently by their recipients. Consider the impact of your client being reminded of your brand on a daily basis.

3. Be Outspoken. “Aside from all of the practical functions they can serve, promotional products can speak to a company’s corporate culture and philosophies,” writes Martins, “A laid back business that believes in a fun atmosphere can use logo items to convey that sense of personality.” He cites water bottles as excellent examples of promo gifts that communicate a company’s principles. In this case, your commitment to health and protecting the environment is conveyed.
