Depositphotos_23269584_xsUsing social media to promote your company is practically a must these days. We have to admit that we’re still getting used to it, here at Synergy Marketing. But with the recent re-launch of our Twitter account, we’re definitely putting more into our online efforts. And you should do the same! After all, with social networking being so popular, the chances of you growing your company’s reach are great.

Let’s not forget that using social media is free. And there’s a lot you can do to encourage your employees to do the same. On Entrepreneur.com, Lambeth Hochwald writes that leveraging social media is a great way to add a personal touch to the way you interact with your customers. She notes that “with social media, every employee is a spokesperson for the company.”

With Facebook and Twitter, people are given the opportunity to communicate messages of their choice all around the clock. Customers no longer have to rely on calling a company only during business hours to get the answers to their most important questions. Perhaps, you should provide incentives to your employees so that they are willing to provide helping hands more regularly.

In other words, your staff members can also function as round-the-clock experts when it comes to your business. How great would it be for them to answer tweets and other comments and questions on social media so that your customers are getting direct access and service on a 24/ basis? Yes, it may sound like work and life are no longer separate. But haven’t we gotten there already?

“It doesn’t work to separate work and life anymore,” writes Hochwald, “We’re friends with our co-workers. We go and get our buddy’s job once he leaves a company. You can have the same network for all your social media–meeting on LinkedIn to talk business and sharing funny stories on Facebook.” It should be mentioned that “sharing funny stories” is actually a big part of what makes social media work.

Your employees don’t necessarily have to “work” through social media. The mere act of them keeping in touch with their customers by providing that human side to your brand will go a long way. Social media, we should point out, really is all about being social. Direct and blatant advertising doesn’t generally work using the Twitters and Facebooks of the world.

It’s all about being genuine, says Hochwald. “When you talk to your employees, articulate what your company stands for and what you hope customers, clients and stakeholders will get from the company,” she advises, “Then, encourage employees to make that story part of their own. After all, they’re giving you 80 hours a week, so consider this something they can get back.”
