3 More Ways To Advertise To Young People

And, in no way should an exclamation mark have been put at the end of our opening statement. Many people – young people especially – dread today because it represents the first day of school for the majority of Canadian students. And while the summer isn’t officially over, summer vacation is certainly done for all intents and purposes.

Now, that doesn’t mean that all young people are upset. On the contrary, many Canadian students are actually quite excited for the beginning of school today. 1. Advertise in schools. Is there a better place to connect with the student population than the schools themselves? 3. Try a guerrilla marketing approach. If you’re planning on connecting with youngsters in person, you may want to try guerrilla marketing. Implementing an unconventional method to market your brand is great way to engage young people who may be disengaged from the “same old same old” approach. Prez believes that guerrilla marketing is one of the most effective ways to communicate with a young, urban crowd.

“ It has a strong impact on driving sales and brand awareness while utilizing minimal resources,” he believes, “Guerrilla marketing focuses on non-traditional tactics, using various brand ambassadors to interact one on one in a very intimate way (being on the ground and actually touching consumers where they eat, sleep, and play such as campuses, concerts, sporting events, nightclubs, etc.)”

5 Ways To Use Social Media To Boost Sales

Not sure what is up with all the puns today, but perhaps it’s because we’re so excited! A new season brings about an entirely new energy to the ways in which customers like to shop. So here are five more ideas to help with your fall promotions.

1. Small Business Saturday. This may be another one of those “never heard of it before” special days. According to Matista, November 29th marks a day when small business owners should be promoting their own “Small Business Saturday” promotion. Circle it on your calendar, she insists. Clearly, you have many options as to what you can do with this day. Consider running a contest in order to attract as many new clients as you can.

2. Customer Appreciation Sale. As we mentioned in yesterday’s blog, thanking your customers is always an excellent idea. 3. BOGO Sale. “What is a BOGO sale?” you may be asking yourself. It’s all about offering a “Buy One Get One” type of deal, according to Matista. Now which customer doesn’t enjoy a good bargain? When you give your customers the ability to get more ‘bangs for their bucks’, they’re bound to be happy about it. Matista admits that such a sale isn’t necessarily fall-themed, but it can work excellently in clearing out older inventory.

4. 24-Hour Sale. “Also not specific to fall, but nonetheless effective, is the good old 24-hour sale,” she continues, “This catchy title is easy to design around, and it creates a surprisingly motivating sense of urgency for your audience. Make sure to send reminders toward the end of the sale that announce it’s ‘ending soon!’” This is a great way to generate excitement about your brand. You’ll have customers visiting you all throughout the season and well into the winter.

5. Game of Thrones. Here’s an interesting one! Are you a “Game of Thrones” fan? Many people seem to love this show. Matista is apparently one of them. “If you (and your customers, of course) are into ‘Game of Thrones’, there is no shame in putting out a ‘Winter is Coming’ promotion,” she writes, “After all…it is.” And that’s true. Perhaps, one of the best ways to promote your business in the fall is to prepare your customers for the winter!

5 Great Ways To Promote Your Business This Fall

Let us begin by saying that we certainly hope that you’re enjoying your last long weekend of the summer. Labour Day weekend is often one that is widely celebrated throughout Canada, as Canadians utilize it to do all they can to enjoy what’s left of “vacation season”.

The kids are about to head back to school and the weather (sadly) is about to get cooler. That doesn’t mean that things should be cooling off for your business though. In fact, the changing of the season means that you should be coming up with ways to heat things up! Although we have until the 22nd to enjoy the technical definition of “summer”, the beginning of September is the start of a whole other season.

It’s the time of year when business owners must consider how to promote their businesses for the fall. We’ve blogged about this a few times over the past month, but now is the time to put your plans into action. Thankfully, Sarah Matista of Webs.com has offered us some assistance by providing some great ideas for how small business owners can promote their brands throughout the fall. In today’s blog, we’ll take a look at her first five.

1. Back-to-school promotions. This one should be pretty obvious, right? If you haven’t started any back-to-school promotions as of yet, you’re already behind. But as Matista points out, “it’s not too late to run some creative promos around getting the house to yourself, vacations being over, or even just generic back-to-school savings.” Remember to keep in mind everyone that back-to-school promotions may appeal to: students, parents and teachers especially.

2. First day of fall promotion. According to Matista, the first day of fall is September 23rd. That means that you have a little bit of time to start up a great promotion for this date. She advises that you consider themes that incorporate the changing of the leaves and the seasons turning. Perhaps, a “Fall Into Savings” event is in order. Many people love the fall. Be sure to appeal to those who believe the new season is worth celebrating.

3. Halloween. This is usually at the top of the list of “favourite fall holidays”. And while it’s not actually an official holiday, Halloween is always something that many people enjoy celebrating. If you’re not incorporating any Halloween ideas into your fall promotions, you’re simply not trying. It’s a no-brainer. As Matista puts it, “thinking of a promotion around Halloween is as easy as taking candy from a baby.”

4. Thanksgiving. Joining Halloween as a “favourite fall holiday” is Thanksgiving. “If you work in the hospitality and restaurant scene, Thanksgiving promotions will come naturally,” writes Matista, “If you need a little help with ideas, consider puns around gobbling up savings, and maybe some sort of ‘leftovers’ clearance if you work in the retail industry.” You may also want to take the opportunity to thank your customers by handing out free promo gifts!

5. You’re Welcome Day. In addition to thanking your customers, Matista suggests an original way to say “you’re welcome” as well. She writes that “You’re Welcome Day” is actually an official holiday that falls on November 28th. “This one would be well suited for a business with a somewhat tongue-in-cheek or irreverent brand identity,” she writes, “I’m envisioning a graphic posted on social media that just says ‘Everything 50% through Sunday. You’re welcome.’”

5 Ideas For Keeping Sales Strong This Fall

Recently, we blogged about the importance of getting your place of business “back to school”-ready. But, of course, the “back to school” season only marks the beginning of fall. There are many different things that you can do to prepare now so that your business is successful when the season comes.

On Intuit.com, Rachel Hartman reminds us that when the kids head back to school next month, many parents will already be thinking about such things as upcoming Thanksgiving and Halloween festivities. So she offers up some ideas to business owners to help keep their sales strong throughout the fall season. In today’s blog, we’ll take a look at our favourite five.

1. Go back to school again. “Offer school-centered deals and promotions,” writes Hartman. She suggests that it’s a good idea to get students involved in the promotion of your business. Clothing retailers, for example, may want to look to hiring students to wear particular articles of clothing on campus. That way, they essentially become walking billboards for your brand. Naturally, you may also want to get going on your “back to school” sales if you haven’t already.

2. Support local sports. Hartman also suggests that you contact local schools in order to sponsor games or tournaments that will be taking place throughout the school year. By being a sponsor, she notes, you’ll be able to offer special deals to spectators and fans, not to mention pass out product samples or promotional gifts to those in attendance. 3. Think themes. Although the end of summer is often a bummer for most people, there’s no reason to not embrace the new season. School is in and the weather simply isn’t as hot as it was just a few weeks ago. It’s time to accept that summer is over. With that said, it’s important to welcome the fall season by having your store celebrate it in various ways.

As Rachel Hartman points out on the Intuit Small Business Blog, there are a variety of ways that you can use the fall season to your advantage at your place of business. Decorate your store, offer season-related discounts, incorporate students in your company and support local sports teams and community groups – these are just a few of those ways. In today’s blog, we’ll review a few more.

Say “thank you.” The autumn season is, after all, a season of giving thanks. With Thanksgiving coming up next month, you may want to break out the thank you cards early. Give them out to customers either in person or by mail. Handing out promotional products, as you’re likely well aware, is also a great way to say “thank you”. They are your ways of showing appreciation to those who support your business. Of course, you can do this all year round. Fall Into Some New Fall Marketing Ideas

autumnAlthough summer doesn’t officially come to an end until this weekend, it’s pretty much done. The chill is already in the air and any day now, those leaves are going to start changing colour. For your business, that means the ways in which you promote have to change as well. It may not yet be time to start putting up Christmas decorations, but times are certainly changing.

In many stores, Halloween displays are already up. Although the annual spooky celebration is still over a month away, the displays demonstrate the need for business owners to think ahead. On the Intuit Small Business Blog, Rachel Hartman writes that the fall season presents a number of opportunities to entrepreneurs. She offers up several ideas on how to utilize the changing of the seasons to boost business.

Go back to school again. Okay, so maybe you graduated a long time ago and have no intention of returning back to the classroom. After all, you are in business for yourself so when would you have time for classes? In actuality, Hartman recommends that you offer “school-centered deals and promotions”. You may even want to consider hiring students who may be able to help you reach a younger market.

Then again, maybe taking a class isn’t so bad an idea after all. Many long time business owners get a little too caught up in their own way of thinking simply because they’ve been in business for many years. It doesn’t hurt to learn something new. There must have been advances in your industry since the day you first opened your doors. Expand your mind and knowledge of your business world and see if it doesn’t help.

Support local sports. Get involved in local schools as well as youth sports leagues and see if you can sponsor a team. School is in, obviously, so the more noticeable your brand is among the student population, the more young customers you are bound to attract. As well, you may want to have your business name and logo don the sweater of a local sports team.

Consider this. Every game played is an advertisement for your brand. During the game, you may want to be present so that you can offer special deals for team members and fans, suggests Hartman. “Pass out samples, coupons, or free T-shirts to those who come to the game,” she writes. Doing so is an awesome way to attract members of your community to your company.

Think themes. There are a variety of fall themes that you can celebrate at your business. Fall colours are loved by most whether they enjoy the cooler weather or not. Give your place of business that “warm and cozy” fall feeling by putting up season-minded decorations. As well, come up with special seasonal sales where your prices “fall back”. This will inject some new life into your store!

Come Up With Back-To-School Tie-Ins. Okay, so what if your business has no relationship to back-to-school shopping whatsoever? You can still create tie-ins to promote whatever it is you sell. Ward offers up a number of examples. If you work in the food industry, you may want to offer up special deals on “healthy school lunches” or special “student meals”.

If you sell cleaning products, you may want to offer a package to students needing help cleaning up their dorm rooms. Do you own a repair shop of some kind? Let’s suppose you fix watches. Create a special “be on time for school” deal, suggests Ward. The possibilities, as you can tell, are endless.
