Great SWAG for Canada Day

Posted in News, Promotional Products, Synergy Suggestions on 30.06.16 by John Meloche

Canada Day is tomorrow and it’s going to be a beautiful day. With the great weather we’re getting it would be crazy not to embrace the outdoors. Companies are doing exactly that as they’re celebrating with all sorts of great outdoor events. In addition to this, there’s been a lot of corporate swag giveaways. But we’re wondering what the best swag to give is? Here’s a few suggestions:

  1. Hats. A classic corporate gift. This is perfect for the outdoors and those beautiful sunny days. Not only this, but it allows your employees to represent your brand almost anywhere they go. It’s a great promotional gift that has multiple purposes, something that’s good for everybody.
  2. T-shirts. Another classic summer gift. Really part of the ideal summer attire, and again another effective means of company representation. A great travelling advertisement.
  3. Steak Knives. Speaking of outdoor events, BBQ’s are a Canada Day staple. They’re perfect for the summer weather and great for celebrating our great country. Nothing’s better than a nice BBQ on a nice summer day. Steak knives just help that idea and let your employees enjoy their Canada Day that much more.

While it is Canada Day and we are celebrating our country, this is a great excuse to hand out SWAG and celebrate your employees. We’re celebrating the country and the great people living in it.

6 Reasons We’re So Proud To Be Canadian

Posted in News on 01.07.15 by John Meloche

Hand making I love you sign, Canada flag painted, multi purpose concept - isolated on white backgroundHappy Canada Day! All across this great nation of ours, there are celebrations taking place today to honour our nation’s 148th birthday. While the Synergy Marketing offices will be closed today, we just wanted to take this opportunity to wish all of our clients an amazing day. Here’s hoping that your fantastic promotional gifts are coming in handy no matter where you plan on handing them out.

Naturally, there is a lot to do all over our nation as most people are taking the day of off work. We thought we’d take the time to acknowledge this great land of ours by noting some of our favourite things about it. We took to the Synergy Marketing team, earlier this week, to ask them what makes them such proud Canadians. The answers may not be all that surprising, but they are definitely worth mentioning.

Here are six reasons we’re so proud to be Canadian:

1. Multi-culturalism. “Just take one look around the Synergy offices and you’ll see why I’m proud to be Canadian. I think we literally employ people from every part of the world. No matter where you look, in our hometown of Toronto, you’ll see people of different nationalities. I think Canada is the perfect example of how different people can come from all over the world and live as one. That’s what it is to be Canadian.”

2. A great global reputation. “No matter where I go in the world, people respect Canadians. I’m not even sure how we got the reputation of being so polite and friendly, but it’s definitely widespread. When I was in Europe last year, someone noticed the maple leaf on my bag and immediately decided to drum up a conversation. People seemed to be so impressed with Canada and our reputation for being good people.”

3. All four seasons. “People who aren’t from Canada tend to live with this stereotype that we have winter all year round. But Canada is a great place to experience all of the four seasons. We get hot summers, cold winters, mild springs and cool falls. It’s just the way it’s supposed to be, if you ask me. I love that I can experience life on the beach as much as I can enjoy tobogganing down a snowy hill. Thank you Canada!”

4. Bilingualism. “I’m not sure how many countries in the world have more than one official language – I’m sure there’s many – but being bilingual is something that Canada is known for. I think it’s great that we have both French and English as official languages. It shows the diversity that helped to create this country. Not to mention, with so many people from different parts of the world making Canada their home, we have many languages spoken here.”

5. Hockey dominance. “It’s hard not to brag about the success that our national teams have always had. The sport of hockey is revered in Canada, and for good reason. We’ve produced the sport’s greatest superstars like Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby and we’ve won more gold medals than I can count in all the different tournaments. Our dominance in hockey has given us all a great sense of national pride.”

6. Majestic beauty. “Admittedly, we have more land mass than we can fill with people. But it’s beautiful to look at. We have the Rocky Mountains in the west coast and Niagara Falls on the east coast and everything in between looks awesome. A road trip across the country will prove it. I’ve been on more than one and I can guarantee you that Canada is a beautiful country. How could you not be proud to be Canadian?”

3 Ways To Use Holidays To Grow Your Company’s Success

Posted in Social Media, Synergy Suggestions on 30.06.15 by John Meloche

Watermelon pieces arranged as bar chart. Fresh summer business concept..For most people, holidays mean days off of work. For business owners, however, holidays generally mean opportunities to promote their brands. In other words, entrepreneurs don’t generally take days off. And while the nation gets prepared for a day off from work during Canada Day tomorrow, many business owners will be using the day to grow their brands. This is a trend that is growing worldwide.

The South African-based My Digital Hand website communicates this, noting that the nation has 13 public holidays a year. While admitting that holidays can deprive certain businesses of sales, they shouldn’t necessarily be viewed as hindrances to business success. “The Public Holidays are superb for business, or marketing at the very least and South Africans generally don’t exploit the value unlike in America where every holiday is used for marketing and even the less official ones,” says the website.

Here are three ways to use holidays to grow your company’s success:

1. Offer holiday specials. Even if you plan on closing your doors on Canada Day – as most businesses will – you can certainly still celebrate the nation by offering special deals on your products and services throughout the week. This will help to circumvent the loss of sales you’ll encounter during the one day that your business is closed. As with every other holiday, it’s important to acknowledge Canada Day by doing something special to attract more customers.

On Entrepreneur.com, Starr Hall communicates this when discussing the end-of-year holiday season. “If you don’t provide a holiday special or offer…you are doing (your customers) – and your business – a grave disservice,” she writes, “Any product or service can be repackaged with a holiday offer or theme. Search online to see what other companies are offering; it might spark an idea or two for your business.”

2. Utilize social media. Your store’s doors may be closed during Canada Day, but your social media profiles should remain very active. Obviously, there is no scheduled downtime for social media use. So, it would be wise to keep active on Facebook and Twitter so that your customers are continually reminded about your brand, even when they can’t visit its physical location. This is especially important for companies that take advantage of e-commerce.

“Your website and your social media as well as other online assets are tools that need to be used and are often heavily underutilized,” insists My Digital Hand, “Your website needs to be alive, needs to be fresh and needs to be current. Your social media is the mouthpiece to give your website and business life and it goes beyond that by being part of the wider social dialogue. Sadly so many companies, large and small are missing out.”

3. Send holiday greetings. Whether it is through social media or direct emails, find a way to let your customers know that you haven’t forgotten about them. More importantly, offering genuine expressions of goodwill such as “Happy Canada Day!” can go a long way in giving customers very favourable impressions of you. Hall notes that many business owners mistakenly think that when offices are closed for holidays, most people are too busy to be bothered.

She sees such a perspective as a sign of laziness. “If you choose not to follow up with leads or customers because it’s a busy time of year, you’re making excuses,” Hall believes, “Although the holiday season is hectic for most, for some businesses it’s actually the slowest and the best time to pick up the phone and make a call for their business. If it’s not the holidays, it’ll be the New Year, or Spring break, then summer.”

Summertime Promo Gifts Make For Great Impressions

Posted in Promotional Products on 29.06.15 by John Meloche

protour-logo-white-1024x1269With summer now officially in full swing, most people have the word “holidays” on their minds – and with good reason. School is out, making it the perfect time of year to take a vacation. Most Canadian business owners think with different mindsets, however. There really is no set-in-stone vacation time as work is never “out” the way that school is during the summer. Business owners are always working.

And that goes for the holidays, as well. Take, Canada Day, for example. This Wednesday, the entire nation will be enjoying a day off from work in order to celebration our country. And while many businesses will be closed for the day, it doesn’t necessarily mean that their owners will be taking the day off. Instead, many of them will be attending Canada Day events with their promotional products in tow.

It makes perfect sense to take advantage of statutory holidays by using them to promote your business. This is especially true for Canada Day as it’s the nation’s first official summer holiday. Outdoor events, celebrating the occasion, will be taking place all over the country. It should go without saying that attending any of these events in an effort to get the word out about your brand would be a good idea.

As we’ve often championed in the past, promo gifts make for the ideal ways to make great first impressions on would-be customers. Especially when those gifts can be utilized during the specific time of year when they are given out, they are amazingly beneficial. Given that it’s the summertime, it would be wise to consider giving out gifts that can be used in the coming months. Our Flying Saucer is a great example.

The summer is a time when hitting the beach or the park for a game of Frisbee is a common occurrence. Our awesome Flying Saucers are the perfect 9-inches in diameter plastic discs for such games. Complete with your company’s name and logo on them, these Flying Saucers are among the best summer-based promotional gifts you can give out. But, of course, we do have others that you can choose from.

Our Aluminum Water Bottles are always popular choices during the summer. Naturally, this time of year brings about much warmer weather. Staying hydrated is an important part of beating the heat. With water bottles bearing your company’s name and logo, you stand the chance of having your company’s good image spread more widely all summer long. But, of course, our catalogue includes a whole lot more!

The golf fans in your client base are in luck. Synergy Marketing proudly boasts a unique set of golf-based promotional gifts for you to choose from. The summertime, of course, makes for the ideal time of year to give out these gifts. The Protour™ Executive Golf Clip is one of the most popular gifts in this category. It includes a golf spike wrench, divot tool, ball marker and a cigar cutter. And that’s not all!

It also comes in a waterproof case with a clear lid and interior form-fit mold for protection and easy identification. The Protour™ Executive Golf Clip easily clips to belts and other loops with its auto-close carabiner. For more information about any of our summertime promo gifts, please don’t hesitate to call Synergy Marketing at 1-877-748-9884! It’s time to take advantage of the summertime holidays!

5 Ways To Maximize Revenue This Summer

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 02.07.14 by John Meloche

Woman enjoying summer salesYou know that the summer is officially here once Canada Day has come and gone. The beginning of July is always a great time as our nation gets an awesome excuse to celebrate – usually under warm and sunny skies. As we’ve mentioned in past blogs, the summer does a great job of bringing people outdoors. And as a result, it provides you with ample opportunities to welcome new customers through your doors.

There’s got to be a way to encourage all of these new lovers of the outdoors to visit you, isn’t there? Of course there are! In fact, there are several. On NextDayFlyers.com, Karen Daniels writes that there are several fun and inventive ways to maximize your revenue with summer promotions. In today’s blog, we’ll take a look at her ideas in order to help you have your most successful summer yet!

1. Summer Brand Building. “Make sure that your ‘packaging and messaging’, suits current economic times,” writes Daniels. One of the keys to doing this, she points out, is to truly highlight the things that make your brand different from your competition. When customers know that they can go to you – and only you – for that something special, you will have carved out a niche market for yourself.

2. Summer Themes. Naturally, with summer here, you’ll want to include summer-themed ideas in the ways that you promote your business. Daniels suggests ideas such as road trip themes and summer sports themes. We’re also thinking backyard barbeque and “A Day At The Beach” themes would work as well. Anything that gets people thinking about the spirit of summer and how your business can help them enjoy it will help your business!

3. “Buy this, get that” Summer-related Promotions. There will probably never be a time when offering your customers a little something extra will be bad idea. But there’s no time like the summer to get them excited about your promotional campaigns, is there? Daniels suggests that you offer your customers something for free when they purchase particular items. Make it so that the free items can be used during the summer. Sunscreen is one example.

4. Partner with other Businesses. Like Daniels’ previous point, this is probably a good year-round idea. Whenever you attach your brand to another company, you pretty much guarantee that you’ll gain access to an entirely new customer base. Of course, assisting another business by promoting it to your clients will be part of the deal. But without having spent anything more than the budget you’ve allotted yourself, you will welcome many new faces through your doors.

5. Use Holidays – Existing and Made-up. Suggests Daniels: “Go beyond your local holidays – look worldwide. For instance, August 2th is International Friendship Day. You could give out postcards that honour great acts of friendship or an offer for your customers to bring a friend and they get half off.” You can even make up a holiday, she continues. Make it so that customers need to come to you in order to buy something to celebrate it!

As always, Synergy Marketing recommends that you incorporate promotional products into any of your promotional campaigns. Daniels pointed out – like so many other industry experts do – that giving things out for free is a great advertising idea. Your promo gifts will go a long way in helping all of your new customers to remember you. Make them loyal customers by handing out useful gifts this summer. Order yours by calling 1-877-748-9884.

A Day To Celebrate Our Nation

Posted in News on 01.07.14 by John Meloche

Canada Flag Heart Glossy ButtonHappy Canada Day everyone! We hope you’re enjoying the day off and spending time with those you love, celebrating being part of the best country in the world. Perhaps, it’s very un-Canadian to brag about how great we are. But hey, we only do this once a year, so why not? Today is a day to be proud of being Canadian – that’s not to say that we shouldn’t be proud every day – but today is the day that it’s especially acceptable to wave the maple leaf-clad flag.

In yesterday’s blog, we discussed a few reasons why it’s so great to be Canadian. But let’s be honest. There’s no blog long enough to give out all of the details. So as we celebrate Canada Day today, we thought we’d provide a few more reasons why the Great White North is truly so great. We’re sure that Canadians are aware of why Canada is so worth celebrating. But not everyone in the world may be hip to the game. So allow us to fill you in.

Freedoms. Our neighbours to the south love to proclaim that America’s freedoms are what help make the United States so wonderful. And they’d be right. But guess what? Canada is also a land of the free. As Green Fenris writes on StudyMode.com, “In Canada you have rights to freedom of speech and thought…Your rights as a Canadian include freedom to express religion, sexual orientation, and individuality and have access to education, occupation, medical and the justice system.”

World-class manners. Canadians are universally known for being polite. Even Jordan Rane of CNN feels compelled to point it out when he writes about Canada’s incredible penchant for apologizing. “It’s not so easy to get a simple apology in most of the world,” he writes, “In Canada, apologies happen constantly – ‘sorries’ flying in from all sides like swarms of affable killer bees.”

Multiculturalism. In Canada, everyone is welcome. One look around the Synergy Marketing offices will tell you that. Our team makes up just a small example of what the rest of the country looks like. We represent a variety of ethnic backgrounds. Fenris acknowledges this by saying “the people from Canada come from many different backgrounds and have many different religions. Many people escape an unsafe or unwelcoming home to come and live in Canada, the land of people.”

Clean Air. Who knew that it has actually healthier for a person to live in Canada? Apparently, Rane did. He writes that “in a recent national air quality study by the World Health Organization, Canada placed third for the cleanest air on the planet. Until the first and second placers (Estonia and Mauritius) are covered in CNN Travel’s ‘better than anywhere else’ series, we direct your breath to Canadian cities — which average a relatively pristine 13 micrograms of PM10 particles per cubic meter.”

Incredible landscapes. The mountains that make up the signature look of the west coast of Canada are enough to marvel at. But the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls are just as much a wonder of the world. Fenris notes that “Canada is not only a nation of people, it’s also an uncomparable feast of wilderness and geography” pointing out that the nation’s rivers, lakes, mountains, deserts, plains, tundras, and forests offer all that any sightseer could ever ask for.

Star-studded citizens. Hollywood may be known for its celebrities. But how many of them were actually born there? As Rane reminds us, Canadian superstars such as Jim Carrey, John Candy, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Dan Aykroyd, Seth Rogen, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman, Michael Cera and Leslie Nielsen account for some of the biggest names in comedy alone. Add music to the discussion, and the list of talented Canucks could go on forever!

4 Reasons Why Canada Is So Awesome!

Posted in News on 30.06.14 by John Meloche

Flag of CanadaOkay, so this may not come as big news to you or anything, but it’s a pretty cool thing to be Canadian. As the nation gears up for Canada Day tomorrow, we can’t help but think about all of the things that make us so very proud to be a Canadian company. We may not be the biggest nation in the world (about 35 million people over the second largest land mass on the planet makes us pretty unique) but we’re a top-notch country if there ever was one.

Forget all of the talk about how cold it is up here and how many of us live in igloos – we’ve all heard those jokes before – we’re an awesome country made up of very diverse individuals from all walks of life who believe in one principle: hockey rules! Okay, so that’s another stereotype. Canada is a thriving nation, and at Synergy Marketing, we’re very proud to know that our promo gifts have assisted Canadian business owners to grow their brands for years.

So what makes you proud to be Canadian? Interestingly, this topic came up during a number of conversations we had with some of our clients in the past week. With Canada Day approaching, many of our clients commented upon the plans they have to celebrate. Not surprisingly, many of them will be working. Restaurant owners, for example, have big plans. But what is it that makes our nation so special?

1. Nice People. “It’s the people,” commented one of our great clients who happened to immigrate to this country in the 1980s, “Canadians have a way about them that sets them apart from everyone else in the world. It’s not just that they are usually polite. They are helpful and considerate in ways that they don’t have to be. I remember watching a lady help another customer to find items in my store. She doesn’t work for me. But I should have hired her. She was great!”

2. Awesome Snacks. The Huffington Post has also commented on why Canada is so great. Among the many reasons to love our great nation, the publication listed a number of snacks that apparently have Canada written all over them. Ketchup chips, Coffee Crisp, poutine and a variety of items made by President’s Choice are listed among the favourites. But the strength our economy, however, was also pointed out as one of Canada’s top features.

3. Great Economy. The Huffington Post writes that “according to Forbes, Canada is the best country in the world to do business and it’s not because of the climate. Chalk it up to a lower corporate tax rate, excellent infrastructure and a well-educated populace. The U.S. and Europe’s recent economic woes don’t help them either.” Not only is Canada a great place to conduct business, but perhaps its most important attribute is that it’s an awesome place to live.

4. High Livability. “Ours might be smaller and fewer in number but Canadian cities consistently rank above American cities on livability,” reads the publication’s website, “In the most recent Mercer survey of livable cities, Canadian cities took 4th, 14th, and 15th place, while the highest-ranked American city was 33rd.” We’re guessing our hometown of Toronto is definitely included in that esteemed list.

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in Canada an amazing Canada Day tomorrow! No matter if you’re working or taking the day off, be sure to take the time to enjoy being Canadian. As you know, there are many reasons to be proud of where you live – too many to list in today’s blog. At Synergy Marketing, we’re very proud to say that we are a Canadian brand, and more importantly, a Canadian family. Enjoy your day tomorrow Canada!

What It Means To Be Canadian

Posted in News on 01.07.13 by John Meloche

canadaHappy Canada Day everyone! We know that you’re likely going to be too busy having fun to worry about work today. And that’s probably how it should be. Nevertheless, we wanted to take the time out to wish all of our friends, family members, colleagues, clients and readers the happiest of holidays this long weekend. Today is a day we celebrate our nation!

And why shouldn’t we? As Canadians, we have quite a lot to be proud of. Even if most people define their “Canadian-ness” by what they’re not. Oh, you haven’t heard? Think about it. What makes you Canadian? A lot of people respond with such things as “we’re more polite” or “we’re better liked”. And, if you notice, such descriptions are based on comparisons to our American neighbours.

“Some people find it hard to define what being Canadian is all about,” commented one of our clients last week, “I think it goes a lot further than being kind and considerate – although those aren’t bad traits. I think being Canadian is about being a world leader without having to show it off. We’re a country of class and dignity. Not to mention, fantastic hockey players!”

And there lies another thing that makes us Canadian. Is it just a stereotype after all or is hockey such a big part of our culture, we may as well just admit that the sport helps to make us who we are? “There’s nothing wrong with saying that we feel we’re the best at something,” said one of our sales reps, “We may not always win gold (medals), but when we don’t the nation is in mourning.”

Perhaps, there really is no one way to define what being Canadian is all about. And maybe – just maybe – that’s what makes us Canadian. “Canada can’t be defined within one sentence,” insisted another member of our team, “We embody so many different cultures and are so accepting of so many people from all over the world, that we are defined by our differences – not what makes us all the same.”

It can be argued then, that our Synergy staff is the perfect example of what it means to be Canadian. Being headquartered in very multi-cultural Toronto, the Synergy Marketing office is comprised of people from all over the world. We have the luxury of experiencing different foods, hearing different languages and growing accustomed to different customs.

Being Canadian means not being labeled as any one thing. It means being a part of something much bigger. We are a nation of many different nations. As we grow as a country, we grow as an example of how to unite various cultures from all over the world as members of one family. Maybe we’re getting a bit melodramatic here. But hey, our diversity makes us proud.

So whatever reason you have to be proud today, feel free to express it, enjoy it and celebrate it. It’s Canada Day. It’s your day! With that said, the Synergy Marketing staff is off and out of the office celebrating today as well. We are open for business bright and early tomorrow morning at 9am EST. At that time, feel free to give us a call for any and all of your marketing needs at 1-877-749-9884.
