5 Ways Social Media Builds Your Brand

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 06.03.14 by John Meloche

Social MediaHaving recently jumped back on to Twitter, Synergy Marketing is pretty excited about the prospect of connecting with new people all over the world. Our main mission, of course, is to build new relationships with Canadian business owners as they make up our client base. We love helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses using our fantastic promotional products.

But we also love communicating with like-minded individuals who enjoy discussing the industries that they represent. After all, we should all have interests in a variety of business types. We need them all to live our daily lives. Everything from food to entertainment, clothing to office supplies and everything else in between – we’re all customers with many different tastes.

One thing is for sure though. No matter what type of business you run, you need to promote it. And as we’ve found, using social media to promote your business is a no-brainer type of decision. It’s free and easy to do and it inevitably connects you with a much wider audience than if you weren’t online. On TheMompreneur.com, Karen Bivand offers some tips on how to make social media work to build your brand.

Hold a Colouring Contest on Facebook. Now here’s an original idea! Bivand suggests that an excellent way to interact with your customers is to get their children involved. Encourage a contest where children get the opportunity to upload their art on your Facebook page to enable people to vote for their favourite piece. You’re bound to get more visits to your page than ever before!

Have a Twitter raffle. As Bivand points out, Twitter is a great tool for reaching a large audience quickly. The more you persuade people to tweet about your business, the more potential customers you’re bound to attract. She suggests that you ask your followers a question and encourage them to respond using your handle and hashtag. Select a winner from those who participate and enjoy an entirely new group of followers!

Scan thank you letters and post them on Facebook. Facebook is a go-to destination for those who enjoy looking at pictures and videos. Bivand suggests that your showcase the personal connection you’ve made between your business and its customers by sharing their letters on Facebook. Simply take a picture of your most kind letters and upload them for the rest of the world to see how great you are!

Make YouTube videos. YouTube is also wildly popular. As mentioned, people love watching videos online. This is especially true if they are short and interesting, says Bivand. Create videos of yourself demonstrating your products or discussing your services. Be interesting and affable to encourage people to not only watch the video but support your business.

Support other people’s initiatives. To truly utilize social media effectively, you have to be social! As Bivand explains, “to be effective of on social media, you need to build relationships…You will notice that people regularly ask for support on social media…If you do your best to support people in this way, you will find that they are much more willing to support you.”

Be sure to check out tomorrow’s blog, as we look into some more ways to boost your business using social media.

6 Strong Ways To Market Your Brand Online

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 18.02.14 by John Meloche

Keyboard with Online Marketing Button.Welcome back to work, ladies and gentlemen! Those in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario enjoyed an additional day off of work yesterday thanks to Family Day. Business owners, on the other hand, were likely busy working no matter what province they’re from. And this is because of the importance of marketing one’s business. There are no days off from that.

In yesterday’s blog, we reviewed a list of advertising tips found on Smarta.com. This same list, however, points to an all-too-important fact about modern-day business promotion: you need to have a strong presence online. With the majority of Canadians taking to the internet before they take to the stores, it’s important to have a strong grasp of how to market your brand on the worldwide web.

Use Twitter. There’s no surprise seeing this tip on this list, is there? As mentioned yesterday, some tips are worth repeating. And using a Twitter account to spread the news about your business is pretty much a no-brainer in today’s world. Remember to be social. It’s all about starting conversations and getting people interested in what you have to say. Twitter is a great way gain attention.

Use Facebook. Well, you didn’t think this social media giant was going to be left off of the list, did you? Remember that using social media is free. Smarta.com recommends that you take advantage of Facebook by uploading photos of your products while updating your status to let customers know what you’re up to. Being on Facebook is a surefire way to look professional to a mass audience.

Use YouTube. People love videos. Seriously. People really love videos! So much so, that YouTube has become one of the most popular websites in the world. There’s almost nothing that can’t be found on YouTube. So why can’t people find your business on this site? “Film yourself building your latest project,” says Smarta.com, “If done well, it can show customers that you really care about what you’re creating.”

Set up a website. If you’re using social media, but you don’t have your website up and running, you’re pretty much shooting yourself in the foot. It’s an online world. This is a topic that we’ve blogged about often. And because it’s true, you’re doing your business no favours by not regularly updating your website. Remember that, these days, customers take to Google a lot faster than they do to walking into your store.

Start a blog. Speaking of regular updates, blogs are arguably the best way to keep your website relevant. As Smarta.com puts it, blogs “encourage people to spend longer on your website and will encourage repeat visitors. You should style yourself as an expert on your particular field or industry. It’s the perfect way to enforce brand messages and engage with customers.”

Email marketing. Let’s not forget how easily email can send your brand messaging to a wide audience in a short span of time. Encourage your customers to fill in forms with their email addresses, advises the site. You can also have them sign up for more information on the “Contact Us” portion of your website. Avoid spamming, but be sure to contact your list with exclusive offers.

Becoming A Top Content Marketer

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 22.01.14 by John Meloche

SEO SwitchPromoting your business will always be at the top of your to-do list, won’t it? As a business owner, you’re likely always thinking of ways to gain more customers. But, as we’ve been pointing out over the past couple of days, content marketing is one of the smartest and most cost-effective ways to get your business more attention. And it’s more about providing information than it is straight advertising.

Content marketing involves you getting active online by blogging and sharing information that others will find useful. By proving that you’re an expert in your field, you will attract attention from people who will likely be interested in what it is you have to sell. Content marketing is effective because it sells your brand without having to blatantly advertise it.

In today’s blog, we’ll wrap up our look at an article about content marketing by Mark Lerner. On SocialMediaToday.com, he lists a number of tips for entrepreneurs looking to gain greater attention in their respective marketplaces. Have you started your blog yet? If not, don’t worry. There are a few more tips that we’ll be providing today that will help you get well on your way to being a top content marketer.

Embrace Videos. Right up there with Google is YouTube when it comes to the most popular places on the internet that people search for content. Lerner points out that creating videos is easier than you think. You can even film them with your smart phone! That said, it’s a good idea to create a video that will gain some interest and attention and post in your website.

Of course, you should include the link to your video on your Facebook and Twitter pages too. Your videos can include just about anything. Consider them your visual blogs. You can provide some useful insight on industry-related issues. Share your expertise that may help to solve some problems and answer some questions. Or just be funny! You never know what will go viral.

Optimize for SEO. It’s all about boosting traffic to your site, Lerner reminds us. So he suggests that for all of your content, you create catchy titles and use important keywords so that it can be easily found online. You want to be found in search engines, right? So consider the words that best describe your content and be sure to include them in your descriptions and write ups.

Promote via Social Media. As if this point wasn’t already made obvious, do your best to keep all of your profiles updated on a regular basis. You’d be surprised just how powerful tweeting can be. As Lerner writes, “Social media is one of the best ways to distribute your content. Networks such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+…this is where your target audience is and the most effective way to reach them.”

Now that you’re an expert in the field of content marketing, it’s time for you to take your business to the next level! At Synergy Marketing, we’re confident that our promotional products can do just that. For decades, promo gifts have helped business owners to grow their businesses, garner referrals and secure loyal customers. To place an order, call Synergy Marketing at 1-877-748-9884.

4 Ideas For Sparkling Cost-Effective Marketing

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 14.01.14 by John Meloche

Marketing And AdvertisingIn yesterday’s blog, we began looking at an article by Helen Todd that appears on BizJournals.com. In it, she lists a number of marketing strategies that are meant to help business owners grow their brands without lightening their wallets. In today’s blog, we’d like to pick up where we left off by rounding out Todd’s list of suggestions. Here’s hoping they will help you boost your business.

Your website. Just because you have a company website doesn’t mean that it is generating business. It’s important to make the most of it, Todd reminds us. That includes having a blog. See, we practice what we preach around here! In order to continuously encourage new visitors, your blog should be regularly updated. This provides useful content to would-be customers.

A blog also provides your website with a greater ability to be found in search engines. Discuss relevant topics to your business that would interest your target audience. They don’t always have to be directly related to your company, but should include keywords that are relevant to your industry. This is why we enjoy discussing various business promotion tips so often in our blog posts. We hope they help!

Become an expert. “Let’s face it, if you are running your own your company, you are an expert in whatever that is,” says Todd, “The same things that make your company newsworthy are the things that make you an expert.” There are a number of ways to show off your expertise, and the previously mentioned blog is one of them. You may also want to film and upload videos to YouTube and embed them on your website.

YouTube, of course, is a popular social media outlet that helps for brands to develop a greater personality. Discussing your products and services in a unique and interesting way through your video series can generate huge interest. There are such things as “YouTube stars”. Perhaps you can give your company “superstar status” through video uploads that let you strut your stuff!

Get involved in your community. Never a bad idea whether you’re a business owner or not, doing some community work is a great way to help out the people around you. “Look for groups and associations that align with your priorities and beliefs,” suggests Todd, “Volunteerism is a great way to network as well.” As you can imagine, getting further involved in your community is a great way to meet people.

The more people you meet, the more opportunities you give yourself to attain more customers. Community involvement provides a win-win situation for business owners. You’re bound to make new friends by helping those who truly need your assistance. And you’re bound to garner greater respect and recognition for your business. Good deeds go a long way.

Consistently brand your business. “Chances are your company already has a logo and a name,” writes Todd, “Your name and logo are the image that says who you are and what you do. Make sure it reflects your business.” Your company name and logo should be on everything, she insists. And we couldn’t agree more! Our promotional products are designed to give your company greater attention.

To order the perfect promotional product for your business, give one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales reps a call by dialing 1-877-748-9884. Boosting your brand is imperative to your company’s success. But it doesn’t have to be expensive. In addition to the numerous strategies outlined in our last two blogs, our gifts are bound to get your company greater attention without you spending the big bucks.

Happy Holidays From Synergy Marketing!

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 20.12.13 by John Meloche

Blue bird with balloon and Santa hatWelcome to the last Synergy Marketing Blog entry for 2013. It’s been an amazing year for Synergy Marketing and we sincerely hope that we’ve helped to make it an amazing year for you as well. In 2014, we will remain dedicated to serving you with the best promotional products in our industry. We will also remain committed to keeping our blog informative and interesting in ways that will help to boost your brand.

In our last blog for 2013, we’d like to take the opportunity to thank each and every one of our readers and clients alike. We know that, thanks to you, we have been able to grow exponentially as a company. Serving business owners all over Canada is a great joy for our staff. This is, in part, because we know that when we help their businesses to grow, our business grows as well.

As readers of our blog are well aware, Synergy Marketing goes a lot further than selling promotional products in order to help Canadian business owners. Our blog is often filled with helpful tips that cover business advertising in a variety of ways. We enjoy researching the internet for various perspectives and taking looks at the many pieces of expert advice that are out there.

This week has been no different. We’ve been studying an article by Krista Bunskoek on SocialMediaToday.com that details a number of ways that Twitter can be used to promote your business during the final week of holiday shopping. All week long, we’ve been reviewing her tips in hopes that that they will help your brand boost its sales before Christmas. In today’s blog, we’ll review her final tip.

Show Your Product. “When you do tweet about your products – show them,” writes Bunskoek, “Always keep your customer in mind, too. Craft your message to explain how your product will solve a customer problem.” Keeping in mind that your job as a business owner is essentially to be a problem solver, use Twitter to literally show how your products can lives easier.

You may also want to include links to short demonstration videos that you’ve posted on YouTube to show just how fun and easy it is to use your products or services. The personal tone you use in both these tweets and videos will go a long way in securing new customers. “Include a link directly to your product on your ecommerce site. Make it easy to buy your product during the busy holiday times,” reminds Bunskoek.

Twitter is a great place to advertise your promotional gifts, by the way. In 2014, you may want to utilize this social media giant as your way of drawing in new business by promoting your gifts. In other words, offer all new customers who come into your store the opportunity to walk away with a free gift. For decades, promo gifts have proven that they encourage customer loyalty – and this will only continue.

Give us a call today at 1-877-748-9884 to order your promotional gifts so that they will be available to you to begin your new advertising push early in 2014. Today is our last day of operations in 2013. We will be closing our offices and reopening them on Monday, January 6th. We look forward to speaking with you in the new year and wish you the happiest of holidays until then!

Becoming An Expert Social Media Communicator

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 24.10.13 by John Meloche

Social media seems to be a hot topic this month. Well, to be honest, it’s been a hot topic for quite some time simply because social media are used to discuss hot topics! This week, we’ve been looking at articles that promote the use of social media for business marketing. Earlier this month, Ian Lurie wrote on Entrepreneur.com that using social media the right way, can get your business boosted in a big way.

It’s all about doing the “little things”, he says. And while admitting that there is “no shortcut to success”, utilizing your social networking profiles to the best of your ability will help to increase your brand awareness in ways you likely never imagined. This is especially true considering that following his list of tips will cost you absolutely nothing. Advertising your business for free can’t be a bad thing, can it?

It’s all about being a good communicator, Lurie says. It needs to be constantly reiterated that social media is all about socializing. As he puts it, it is “really a crowd of people talking – usually to each other.” So how do you “cut through the noise and really engage with people”? How do you avoid turning people off while simply trying to inform them of what your business does? Lurie offers his tips.

Write well. When you’re posting on your Facebook and Twitter profiles on behalf of your business, it’s important to not just use proper punctuation and grammar, but the right tone as well. You want to “write in a comfortable voice, not a formal one,” says Lurie. Keep it short and concise when possible and be sure you’re confident in what you’re saying before sending your message out into the world.

Use images when it makes sense. People do love their pictures. And as Lurie reports, posts with images get approximately two to three times more interest. However, you don’t want to add pictures to your posts simply for the sake of adding pictures. Make sure they are relevant to your post. Remember, they don’t all have to be directly related to your business. It’s all about getting people interested in your topic.

Utilize video. As much as people love pictures, they seem to love videos twice as much. Is it any wonder that sites such as YouTube and Vimeo are so popular? Nothing attracts an audience like an interesting video. Share videos that make sense. And while you’re choosing your videos, make sure that they are in keeping with the type of audience you are looking to attract. You don’t want to offend anyone.

Take advantage of all social networks. According to Lurie, there’s really no limit to the number of different social media profiles you can have. Facebook and Twitter are among the most popular, but there are several more sites out there. From Google+ to LinkedIn to SlideShare, there are various sites that can help your business expand its reach across cyberspace.

Respond immediately. “If someone asks a question or proposes an alternate viewpoint, answer them quickly,” writes Lurie, “This gives people the impression you care about their needs and are responsive.” It is also the entire purpose of social media. They give business owners direct links to their customers and the unique ability to keep in constant touch. Make use of this great invention!

Making The Most Of Social Networking

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 22.10.13 by John Meloche

snAdvertising is important. We all know that. And using social media to advertise your brand is definitely a wise move. We all know that too. But do we know how to properly use social media to our advantage? The key to social media is to actually be social. Sure, we could go on Facebook and Twitter every day to simply plug our businesses, but would that actually work?

The consensus seems to be that it doesn’t. Instead of simply plugging away on social media, it’s important to actually engage people in conversations. Getting people talking is what will earn you “likes” and “followers”. And the more people you get to “like” and “follow” your company, the more opportunities you will have to turn them into buying customers. This is how social media really works.

Think about how generic advertising works. Do commercials really speak directly to you? On Entrepreneur.com, Tukan Das poses the question this way: “When was the last time you saw a billboard, TV or a print ad and said to yourself, ‘Wow that brand really cares about me and I am going to buy that product?’ Let me guess: Never.” Big corporations, asserts Das, prefer to “play it safe”.

In other words, bigger businesses tend to stay away from engaging with their customers in public forums. So giant billboards, television commercials, radio spots and print ads do all of the advertising for these companies – it’s all impersonal. There is no direct contact between customer and company. And in the increasingly-computer-savvy world that we live in, this type of advertising simply doesn’t cut it.

“Revenue from traditional advertisement channels are at an all time low,” reports Das. So the need to use social media to your advantage is clearly at an all time high. Not only is it proving to be successful, but it’s a lot cheaper as well. And by cheaper, we mean free! Setting up a Facebook and Twitter account costs nothing. What it will make you, however, has no limits.

“It’s important to not only look at social media as a channel to get your message out there but also as a way to truly build meaningful relationships with potential and existing customers,” writes Das. And with that, he provides a couple of ways that your company can make the most out of its social networking efforts. Make notes of these tips and see if they don’t help you.

Look beyond direct brand mentions. Be aggressive, he insists. People inquire about making purchases on line every single day. Too often, companies overlook these conversations. Don’t just monitor social media, get involved in social media. Take part in these conversations and offer examples of your expertise. Your “inadvertent” approach to advertising your business will pay off.

Start a conversation naturally. You don’t have to just join conversations, you can start them yourself! It’s like dating, says Das. Don’t try to come on too strong. Simply spark a meaningful conversation by asking a question. There’s no need to be too pushy. Don’t go for the sell too fast. Reel people in with intriguing conversation and they will be interested in getting to know more about your brand.

Finding New Ways To Give Thanks

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 10.10.13 by John Meloche

thanksgivingAs you know, Thanksgiving comes this weekend in Canada. And, as we discussed in yesterday’s blog, promotional products are the best ways to give thanks to your customers. The fall season, however, also presents business owners with opportunities to show appreciation in other ways. Naturally, with the changing of the season come reasons to change the way you promote your brand.

On the Live Help Now! Blog, there are a number of suggestions provided by a blogger known only as Katie. These suggestions unveil ways in which business owners can use the Thanksgiving holiday to their advantage. Sure, you’re only days away from the long weekend. But that doesn’t mean it’s too late to let your customers know that you’re thinking about them.

In other words, you may want to consider turning this long weekend into one big promotional campaign for your business. What does it hurt to make use of the upcoming holiday in ways that will benefit you? Hopefully, people are already in a good mood, considering that many of them won’t have to report for work this coming Monday. Here are some ideas on how to boost sales this Thanksgiving.

Create videos to promote your Thanksgiving offers. Kate must be a fan of YouTube. If so, she is much like millions of other people across the world who surf the internet for videos on a daily basis. She suggests that you post some videos across your social media channels to get the word out about special offers that you may be having up until the end of the long weekend.

Create special Facebook contests. Speaking of social media channels, Facebook is not a website to be overlooked. It should go without saying just how popular it is. Katie suggests you run a special Thanksgiving contest in order to engage your customers. It can include in-store giveaways, prizes and discount coupons – anything to drum up more traffic to your store.

Give back to the community. A natural fit for the Thanksgiving holiday, you may want to consider getting involved in your local charities. Consider sponsoring a food drive, says Katie. Or perhaps you can ask your customers to donate to charities that you support while informing them that you will match those donations. Truly giving thanks is shown by giving back. Of course, doing so will look great on your brand.

Give our promotional products. Okay, so this isn’t on Katie’s list. But as readers of the Synergy Marketing Blog know, it makes our list every time! As we discussed in yesterday’s blog, promotional gifts make great “thank yous”. They show your customers that you appreciate them. And that show of appreciation often encourages them to keep coming back time and time again.

Be sure to contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales representatives by calling 1-877-748-9884. Although you won’t be able to get your new promo gifts in time for this year’s Thanksgiving, the act of giving thanks is not one that should be overlooked at any time of the year. And when you think about it, Thanksgiving is only the beginning of the “season to give thanks”. We all know what’s around the corner!

Promoting Your Sales Promotion Through The Media

Posted in Promotional Products, Synergy Suggestions on 13.09.13 by John Meloche

mediaSome people get all wrapped up in what they learn from the media. Some people question everything the media tell them. One thing is for sure, people pay attention to the media. If something is getting publicity, it must be worth checking out, right? Whether you subscribe to that way of thinking or not really doesn’t matter. What matters is that you get your company the publicity it needs.

On TightwadMarketing.com, John Kuraoka lists a number of ways that your business can increase its sales potential by using the media to publicize its latest sales promotion. All week long, we have been examining Kuraoka’s tips. In today’s blog, we’ll conclude our look at those tips by providing our take on the various methods by which your business can get better noticed in the media.

Send out press releases to get publicity. Make your business newsworthy. Getting media attention won’t be based on your sales alone. It will be based on how interesting your company is. What makes it different? How does it stand out? What interesting story do you have to tell about how you started the business? Do you have an unusual talent you’d like to expose? Find ways to get the media interested in the answers to these questions.

Postcards to existing customers. Who said the media were only made up of television coverage, radio broadcasts and newspaper articles? Kuraoka reminds us that postcards are cheap to create and cheap to mail. Let your current customers know that you haven’t forgotten them. And don’t allow them to forget you! Send out postcards with well wishes and invites back to your store for great deals.

Postcards to targeted potential customers. These postcards need to be worded a bit differently. They should impart to your potential customers that you are willing to earn their support. Perhaps the postcard itself can represent a discount coupon for a limited time. Find ways to spark interest in these would-be clients so that they’re not quick to throw your postcard away.

Joint promotion with related businesses. “Let’s all chip in on a promotional marketing piece that we’ll each distribute” suggests Kuraoka as an approach to other business owners. It all goes back to the “scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” theory that we spoke about yesterday. The bartering system has been around for years. It costs you nothing but a bit of extra effort. And it pays off!

Post a Video. This is one of our own suggestions. We discussed the importance of using social media to your advantage a few days ago. But as we blogged about a couple of weeks ago, YouTube can be a great promotional tool. Your video can be funny and entertaining or educational and informative. Either way, go ahead and expose your expertise and knowledge in videos that advertise your latest sales.

Your video will add personality to your brand. People are drawn to interesting personalities. If you have one, they will be drawn to your store. As we’ve outlined all week long, there are various ways in which you can promote your promotions. Utilizing a mix of all of the tips doled out this week is sure to go a long way. Make sure to use the methods that you think are best suited for your type of business. Good luck!

YouTube Is Your Tool For Boosting Business

Posted in Synergy Suggestions on 27.08.13 by John Meloche

youtube2In yesterday’s blog, we took a look at a Zeke Camusio article from StartupNation.com that started by admitting that “most people are afraid to use YouTube to promote their business.” We began taking looks at his tips for business owners on how the video uploading website can be used to promote their companies. In today’s blog, we’ll pick up where we left off with those tips.

Add Your URL to the Description. Never forget to add links to your company website and other social media profiles in the description of your video. Consider each video you upload as another link to the sites that will bring more customers into your business. Each video, of course, should also encourage viewers to contact your business. Make sure they have the right contact information!

Use Multiple Calls to Action. There are several ways to engage your YouTube audience. The best ways, according to Camusio are to provide such calls to action as “Please rate this video, Follow me on Twitter, Find me on Facebook, Subscribe to my videos, Visit my blog for more great videos, Embed this on your site, Please post your comments, Send this video to your friends (and) Check out my channel.”

Soft-Sell. It’s best not to ask people to purchase your good and services outright, says Camusio. Instead, the above mentioned calls to action should be left to do the work. If your videos are interesting enough, viewers will want to learn more about you. YouTube works best when videos are posted that get people talking. They will want to share them with others.

Video Responses. Don’t forget to post comments on other videos that are related to your own. Each comment you post will become a link to your own page. Don’t spam, warns Camusio. Be unique with what you say each time. The comments you make should be interesting enough to make others want to check you out. The more you comment, the more traffic you will end up generating.

Create Playlists. Adding your videos to playlists will allow you to create categories on your channel that will better service the visitors to your page. Depending on what videos you upload, you may want to focus on various areas of expertise. Perhaps, you’ll have a “Demo” playlist that includes videos that demonstrate your products and services. However, you may also have a “Jokes” section that may get even more hits. The possibilities are truly endless.

It’s a Social Network! Remember that YouTube is another social networking website. Reminds Camusio, “you can add friends, message them, join groups, create your own group and use the bulletin board to interact with the YouTube community.” It requires your willingness to interact with others. Remember to engage others in conversations and not just advertise to them.

Promote Your Videos. It’s not enough to simply upload your videos, Camusio insists, you have to promote them as well. Write blogs and embed your videos in them. Be sure to post links to your videos on Facebook and include them in your tweets on Twitter. Ask others to copy the links to share them with their friends. YouTube videos work best when other social networks help to spread them around.
